Breast Enlargement (Augmentation)
Breast enlargement is reshaping of the breasts using different types, shapes and sizes of implants. Breast enlargement may also be used in the treatment of mild ptosis-sagging of the breasts.
Technically, breast implants may be placed using different options of small incisions; under the breasts, in the armpits and at the lower border of the areolas. Implants may be placed under or the above of the chest wall muscle. Implants used are mainly of two types; silicone gel filled or saline filled.
Duration of the procedure is about 1-2 hours and it can be performed both under general anesthesia or intravascular sedation. It is generally an outpatient procedure and overnight hospital stay is not required. Return to work is in about 5-7 days and sports and physical activities requiring close contact may be started in 4 weeks.
Main risks of the procedure are asymmetry, bleeding, infection, decrease or increase of sensation, visible scarring, fluid collection, capsule formation around the implant and leakage of the implants.
