Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)
It is the treatment of the natal structural disorder known also as the protruding ear. Besides the correction of the appearance of the ear, it aims to raise the psychological uneasiness the child is involved within. It is applied most frequently between the ages 4-14. Structural ear disorders other than the protruding ear can be treated in like manner with several otoplasty methods at different ages.
Technically with a cut made behind the ear, the ear is caused to come near to the head and the wide angling causing the appearance of protrusion is removed.
Duration of the operation is 2-3 hours and applied under general anesthesia . In patients at the after childhood stage it can be applied under the effect of intravascular drug. Staying at the hospital is not required. Returning back to work or school gets realized in 5-7 days, returning back to heavy exercises in 6-8 weeks. After the operation it is required to wear tennis-head band for 4-6 weeks.
Main risks are infection, asymmetry, deformity, skin-cartilage damage, sometimes scars that may be permanent, and returning back of the structural disorder present before the operation.
For this reason, the wearing of the tennis-head band to keep the ear from folding to the front after the attempt for at least 4-6 weeks carries great importance.
